WVMS Modified Wildcats kick off teacher appreciation project… My Jersey, Your Impact

September 30, 2021

We are excited to announce a new football tradition here at Warwick Valley Middle School called My Jersey, Your Impact. The program provides student athletes on the WVMS modified football with opportunities to recognize some of their most influential educators, and thank them for their support.

During the school day before each WVMS Wildcats football game, our eighth grade players will honor a faculty member who has made an impact on them during their Middle School careers. Each week, three players will present their Wildcats jersey to the teacher they choose, and the teachers are invited to either wear the jersey or display it outside of their classroom throughout gameday.

Opening day for modified football was Thursday, September 30. Two Wildcat players presented their jerseys that morning.

Matthew Desrats presented his #10 jersey to home and careers teacher Ms. Lane.

“I had Ms. Lane last year for home and careers,” said Matthew. “It was my favorite class, and she was a great teacher.

Klaus Lindenau chose to present his #3 jersey to Mr. Kelly.

“I decided to give my jersey to Mr. Kelly,” said Klaus. “He’s been awesome. He makes math fun and easy.”

WVMS Associate Principal Christopher Radon said the new program is an awesome way for students to celebrate the teachers who have inspired them during their middle school careers.

“Warwick has a long and proud tradition of scholar athletes, and the connections that students and teachers make at every grade level play a huge part in that,” said Mr. Radon. “The impact of an influential teacher often extends beyond a specific classroom or subject, and empowers students toward all kinds of achievements. Our players love the jersey program because it gives them a fun way to thank their teachers while sharing Wildcat pride.”

Each week throughout the season, two to three more Wildcats will choose a Middle School teacher to honor.
