WVHS holds Newspaper Fashion Show

June 18, 2021

Amidst much fanfare, Warwick Valley High School’s annual Newspaper Fashion Show took place on Friday June 11th.  There were a total of 32 newspaper garments that were modeled, ranging from short skirts to long ball gowns. The dresses were adorned with paper roses, butterflies and decorative patterns. For added flare, students created accessories to complement their intricate and delicate creations. Katie Bucek created heels made entirely of cardboard and newspaper. Chelsea Liang crafted a crown and scepter embellished with roses. Sofia Minogue created a purse with tightly woven newspaper spirals.

Multiple teachers from various disciplines came together to make the event a huge success. Mr. Thomas’s communication class provided music and video footage. Mrs. Betello’s Cosmetology class did the hair styling and makeup for our models. Mr. Avila’s Criminal Justice Class provided security and direction for teachers who signed up to attend the event with their classes. Mrs. Cologan’s Floral Design Class provided flowers while Mrs. Spano’s Portfolio Class created the set design. Mr. Manno, Mrs. McLoughlin and Mrs. Blauner’s first and second period classes helped chalk the mosaic pattern for the runway, and Mrs. Blauner’s digital photography class took pictures of the event for the WVHS Virtual Art Show website.

All in all it was a very festive event, with balloon arches, great music, amazing dresses, gorgeous flowers lining the runway and models who exhibited confidence and flair! The audience of teachers, students, administrators and staff all loved it, clapping, hooting and smiling, showing their support and happiness to be a part of the fashion show.
