Junior Cara Peddle wins People’s Party nomination during Youth in Government event

December 3, 2019

On Nov. 22, representatives from Warwick Valley High School’s Youth in Government program met with  200 students from nine schools from the surrounding area for the Newburgh Free Academy’s annual Youth in Government convention event.

There, students held mock elections for local, state and federal positions.

We’re proud to announce that Warwick Valley High School junior Cara Peddle won the Peoples Party nomination for Orange County District Attorney.

“Cara is an exceptional candidate not only because she’s new to the program with new great and bold ideas but has great passion and vision,” the program’s advisor, Kevan Ottochian, said. “I have a great feeling about her candidacy and wish her the best of luck.”

What’s next?

Cara will go against a candidate from the Citizens Party in a general election in early 2020. If she wins the general election, she’ll get the opportunity to shadow Orange County District Attorney, David Hoovler, during the Youth in Government’s Annual Orange County Service Day in April 2020.  All WVHS students will have the opportunity to watch and the convention winners speak and vote for Cara during their social studies classes.
