WVMS students perform piano recitals for peers
Warwick Valley Middle School students in Mr. Peters’ classes performed piano recitals for their peers on January 21 and 25. The students started piano instruction at the beginning of the year, and have received two piano lessons every eight days.

Each of the students were assigned their own keyboard in the Mac lab, and have been working through a method book and practicing piano fundamentals. They have learned how to read simple rhythms, notes in both treble and bass clefs, and other music symbols.
During the recitals, students also practiced how to be good audience members. They learned how to read a program and about proper concert etiquette.
“I love this piano recital opportunity, as it teaches students a lot of skills that transcend the piano,” said Mr. Peters. “For example, preparing for a recital teaches students how to deal with nerves, organize their time, how to work on self-motivation and self-assessment skills, and a plethora of other important life skills.”
