WVMS takes precautions to manage peanut allergies

October 21, 2019

Dear parents,

Many students in the middle school have severe allergies to peanuts and other nuts. Since these allergies can be life threatening, we have taken a few precautions to ensure student safety and we need your help.

Some students with a peanut/nut allergy cannot have foods that contain even traces of these products. Strict avoidance is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction. Individual snacks brought in to the classroom by students should be peanut/nut free. When sending in shared snacks for birthdays and holidays, please make sure they are store bought with ingredients clearly labeled. This will allow the teacher to quickly review the ingredients making sure these items are safe for all students.

We understand that some children have limited food choices and that is why it is OK for them to bring peanuts/nuts to the cafeteria for lunch. A nut free table is provided in the cafeteria to accommodate students with allergies,

The classrooms where the eighth grade students are eating lunch will be thoroughly cleaned with their own set of disposable towels.

Please call with any questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

Sincerely,
Michelle
