WVHS junior a member of winning BOCES team in Youth Cyber Defense Competition

on April 18, 2016

Warwick Valley junior, Brendan Rasenberger, was a member of the Orange-Ulster BOCES’ six-man team that recently beat 166 other teams to take first place in the Northeast region for the 2016 CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.

In the competition, they worked nonstop through a series of cybersecurity threats to keep a small business up and running.

When the results were announced last month, the BOCES team also placed in the top third of 1,254 teams from across the U.S., Canada, Japan and Germany.

Team members credited their BOCES instructor, Robert McMann, with keeping them focused during the long, challenging sessions.

It was BOCES’ first year in the competition, which is sponsored by Cisco Systems Inc., a giant computer networking company, and the Air Force Association, a group of active-duty Air Force personnel and veterans dedicated to promoting national security and aerospace.
