WVHS baseball standout Justin Hurd signs National Letter of Intent to play at Albany

Warwick Valley High School senior Justin Hurd signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I baseball at the University at Albany during a ceremony in the high school media center in front of his family, friends, coaches and administrators.

Justin, a middle infielder, is getting ready to start his third season on the varsity baseball team at Warwick. He batted .377 with five home runs in 15 games last season, leading the Wildcats in every offensive category and earning the team’s Most Valuable Player award. Justin will be the team captain in the spring.

Justin excels in the classroom as well as on the field. He has an overall cumulative weighted average of 98.5 and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta math honor society. He is also the student liaison to the Board of Education.

Justin was recruited by Albany assistant baseball coach Jeff Kaier. Albany competes in the America East Conference along with Binghamton, Stony Brook, Maine and UMBC.

“I’d just like to thank everyone for coming out and to thank my parents for the countless hours when I wanted just to go play baseball.”

Justin also starred on the Warwick football team. He was an all-Section 9 defensive back and team captain.

Justin’s parents are Brian and Karen Hurd of Warwick. His brother Logan is a freshman at SUNY Cortland, and his sister Addison attends Sanfordville Elementary School.
