WVHS Artists Ready for the Annual Art Chair Auction

The WVHS Art Department is proud to announce this year’s WVHS Arts Scholarship Chair Auction. The highly-anticipated annual event will take place this year from Saturday, May 1 through Friday, May 14. All proceeds from the auction will go to fund scholarships for graduating seniors who plan to pursue art in college.

Students in Ms. Kristen Spano’s art portfolio class were challenged to transform an ordinary chair into a work of art in the style of a specific art movement, technique, or artist. This year’s 16 chairs (and two framed prints) run a range of styles, including country chic, glam, Hollywood noir, Americana, and more.

The students have been engaged in their creative process for several months, and recently began unveiling their chairs at local retailers around Warwick. This year’s participating artists are:

The entire collection will be presented to the public at the Makers Market at Lewis Park on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2. Bidding will begin during the Makers Market and then continue online for two weeks. Bidding will close on Friday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m.
