WVCSD teachers walked/ran 14 thousand+ miles for charity this summer

October 1, 2020

This past summer, some of our WVCSD teachers formed three teams to take part in the One NY Virtual Challenge – Race Across New York.

The virtual race benefitted Covid-19 relief, by using donations toward supporting healthcare workers.
The funds provided much needed PPE, meals, and other important resources to many frontline, essential workers — the everyday heroes who are battling Covid-19 across the nation.

Warwick Valley teachers banded together to contribute their collective mileage to the One NY 500K challenge. For perspective, 500K spans roughly the distance from Niagara Falls to Montauk Point!

You want to know how many miles our dedicated pedagogue pedestrians contributed to the cause?

   Elementary Team:         3,546 miles!

+ High School Team:       3,877 miles!

+ Middle School Team:   7,468 miles!

                      WV Total:   14,891 miles!

Wow!! Kudos and a round of applause to everyone who represented the district for this great, timely cause.

WVCSD teachers are now looking forward to completing their next challenge in January, a benefit for the wonderful organization Beautiful People, which seeks to build bridges between children with disabilities and their families and the broader community of Orange County, by providing adaptive sports for children and young adults, ages 5 and up.

Keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities to support the efforts of these excellent organizations, including the efforts of our own faculty and staff on their behalf.
