WVCSD holds 25th annual String Fling Concert

June 9, 2023

Congratulations to the Warwick Valley Central School District students in grades 4-12 who performed so well in the 25th annual Spring Fling concert in the WVHS gymnasium on June 7, 2023.

The event featured performances by the Wire Choir, Fourth Grade Orchestra, Fifth and Sixth Grade Orchestras, Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestras, Cello Nation, WVHS Symphony Orchestra and WVHS Chamber Strings. All of the students played “Celebration” together in the finale.

At the start of the concert, Park Avenue and Sandfordville Elementary School music teacher Keely Gould Blaikner talked about the history of the orchestra program at Warwick, which started with six students in a club at the middle school in 1996.

“Today we have 386 students here on the floor,” Ms. Blaikner said.  “It’s been an amazing journey over the past 25 years. It’s something to be very proud of: the fact that we have such a wonderful administration that believes in music and allows us to do this.”

The concert was dedicated to Warwick graduate Whitney Blake, who passed away a few months ago and was one of the original six members of the orchestra club.

“Whitney Blake touched so many hearts,” Ms. Blaikner said.  “We’re sad that she’s gone, but her passion for music and her passion for life will never leave us.”
