Dear Parents and all WVCSD Community Members,

Over the past three years we have added over 30 new courses, introduced innovative new school schedules and made significant enhancements to instructional technology. We now offer a revamped and robust professional development plan to our faculty, so they can reach their highest potential as instructors.

Effective leadership, however, is not just about adopting the latest and greatest program or tool; it is about focusing on the few, specific research-based actions that ensure optimal instruction for our children.

As we “cut through the noise” of countless mandates, policies and regulations, our district’s focus will remain on three core elements: curriculum, instruction and literacy.

This year, teachers will work toward mapping and implementing a rich curriculum for every course. Once completed, this “living document” will be made available for all to view online. It will emphasize literacy development as students read more regularly, discuss thoughtfully, and write in all disciplines.

Finally, an increased emphasis will be placed on consistently delivering highly effective instruction so that all children are intellectually engaged.

We are proud that our students continue to rate among the highest in the mid-Hudson region in Regents results and graduation, and remain humbled by recent designations such as “Best Community for Music Education” and “New York State Reward High School.”

Though we are pleased with our students’ most recent achievements, we nonetheless continue to strive for significant, transformative improvements in all schools, so that our children are well-prepared for their future, not our past.

Best wishes for a successful school year!

Sincerely,
Dr. David Leach
Superintendent of Schools
Warwick Valley Central School District
