Congratulations to Warwick student-athletes on winning the annual Spring High School Sports Challenge against North Rockland on Saturday, May 11.

Cindy Parson of the Wounded Warrior Project addressed participating athletes ahead of the competition.

Held on the WVHS campus, the challenge attracted more than 400 participants from the two schools and raised over $4,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

Each Warwick athlete donated $20 and sported a commemorative WWP t-shirt in honor of the veteran service organization. The day’s event included an address by WWP representative Cindy Parson, mother of an army veteran severely injured in Iraq. She shared his and her story with the students and presented on the organization’s mission to serve veterans and service members who incurred physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001.

Schools receive two points for a varsity win and one point for a junior varsity win. The Wildcats wins included boys varsity/JV lacrosse; girls varsity/JV softball; JV baseball; varsity boys tennis; girls JV lacrosse; and boys golf– for a total of 12 points.

North Rockland edged the Wildcats in varsity baseball, girls varsity lacrosse, and girls golf for 6 points.

This is the seventh year of the event, and the first time the Wildcats defeated the Section I power.

Warwick athletics thanks the many volunteers who helped make the event a memorable experience for all, namely, athletics office manager Heidi Thonus, and buildings and grounds staff Curtis Akacki and Herman Eurich.
