Warwick Valley Central School District holds vaccination clinic for employees
The Warwick Valley Central School District took a major step toward getting more students back to full in-person learning by hosting a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic for employees on Sunday, February 28th. In partnership with Sun River Health, 300 District employees received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine at Warwick Valley High School.
“This clinic, vaccinating our faculty and staff, has been truly a blessing,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Leach. “This step was critical for us to move forward in maximizing in-person instruction. While educational workers were pretty much near the front of the line in terms of being vaccinated, it has been challenging to find those vaccines.”
Employees were temperature scanned upon entering the high school. After checking in, employees received injections at one of seven stations in the new gymnasium. The event started at 8 a.m. and ran through 3:30 p.m. Employees will receive their second dose on March 28th.
“This would not have been possible for us without Kathy Brieger (Executive Director of Sun River Health’s Planetree Institute and Chief of Clinical Strategy and Research) and the Sun River Health leadership,” Dr. Leach said. “I also want to thank the staff and volunteers who helped make the event a success. Our staff did a phenomenal job moving folks through.”
WVCSD has partnered with Sun River Health for several programs, including the Warwick Area Migrant Committee-Dulce Esperanza summer enrichment program. Sun River Health is a network of 43 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) providing primary, dental, pediatric, OB-GYN, and behavioral health care to over 245,000 patients annually.
