Warwick student-athletes to play for college teams

WVHS student-athletes with their coaches before signing national letters of intent

A ceremony celebrating the signing of National Letters of Intent by four WVHS student-athletes was held on November 14, 2017 at Warwick Valley High School.

The event was attended by parents, siblings, friends and teammates.


National Letters of Intent were signed by these WVHS student-athletes:

WVHS Student-Athlete Tom GardinerTom Gardiner

Warwick three season standout (XC, Indoor and Outdoor Track)National Letter of Intent to attend Xavier University of Cincinnati, Ohio and compete as a track athlete for the Bearcats. 

 Career Highlights as an Athlete:
• NYSPHSAA Champion 4 X 800 Meter Relay (Indoor Track) 2016
• 2nd at Section 9 Meet for XC and 16th at NYSPHSAA Championships this weekend at Wayne County (Rochester Area) 2017 
• 4 Time Section Champion 4 X 800 Meters.  3 Time Section Champion in XC (TEAM)

Tom was recruited by Ryan Orner (Warwick alum), Track Coach at Xavier University and Maria Stickley (Assistant Coach). Xavier competes in the Big East Conference for Track and Field. Tom will join Warwick alumni Grant Parrelli and Jennie Prial, who compete for Xavier. He chose Xavier over Iona College, High Point (NC) and University of Rhode Island, and plans to study Education.  

Academic Accomplishments:
• 2 X NYSPHSAA Scholar–Athlete 
• Member of Leadership Club, Sports Medicine Club
• Working toward Eagle Scout Badge

Parents: Karen and Vincent Gardiner of Warwick, New York.   
Brother: Patrick (attends Warwick MS) and sister Hannah (4th grade at Park Avenue).  


WVHS Student-Athlete Amanda McGrawAmanda McGraw

Amanda is entering her third season as a dive athlete and intends to sign a National Letter of Intent to attend Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY, which competes in the America East Conference. This past summer, Amanda participated in a diving training trip to Shanghai, China with a club dive team from Fordham University.

Career Highlights as an Athlete:
• Section 9 and OCIAA Dive Champion 2017 (County Record for most points scored in the County Championships – 11 Dives 498 Points).
• Placed 5 at the NYSPHSAA Championships in 2016.
• Warwick School Record Holder 11 Dives (537.7) formerly held by Shannon McNamara 2011.
• MW, NFA Pool Record Holder 6 Dives 
• Competing for a State title this Weekend.

Amanda was recruited by Heather Colby, Diving Coach at Binghamton University, which competes in the America East Conference. She chose Binghamton over Rutgers, Bucknell and Boston University, and plans to study Engineering.  

Academic Accomplishments:
• Ranked in the top 10% of her class with a weighted GPA over 96, Dive Team Captain.  
• Member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Youth in Government and the Warwick Lions Club

Parents: Monica and Ken McGraw of Warwick, New York.  
Sisters: Nicole McGraw (Attends UB) and Kirsten (sophomore at WVHS).  


WVHS Student-Athlete Brody Jo RyanBrody Jo Ryan

Warwick three-season Varsity Baseball National Letter of Intent to attend Lenoir Rhyne University of Hickory, North Carolina and play baseball. Lenoir Rhyne competes in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).    

Career Highlights as an Athlete:
• 2 year starter at 3rd base for the Warwick Wildcats
• Batted .392 with 5 HR’s (Selected 8th Team All State Baseball)  
• Played 3 years for the Bayside Yankees began relief pitching (closer role last year).

Brody was recruited by Tom Flenor, Head Baseball Coach for the Lenoir Rhyne Bears. Lenoir Rhyne competes in the SAC along with Catawba, Lincoln Memorial University and Mt. Olive.  He will enter this fall with an undecided major.  

Parents: Pat and Carol Ryan of Warwick, New York.   
Sisters Madison (Senior at WVHS who will study nursing) and Brittany (attends RCC–Speech Pathology), brother Patrick is a member of the Electrical Union.
