Warwick Gridder Matthew Hansen receives State Scholar-Athlete Award

Warwick Valley High School senior Matthew Hansen has been named New York State Class A Football Scholar Athlete of the Year by the New York State High School Football Coaches Association.

Matthew was presented the award at the NYSHSFCA Awards Banquet in Verona, New York.  He is only the second Section IX football player to receive the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in its 20 year tenure

Matthew recorded over 60 tackles and two sacks as a senior linebacker for the Warwick Valley Wildcats.  

Matt has excelled in the classroom with a cumulative academic index of 102.7 (currently ranked 11th in his class), SAT score of 1430 and an active participant in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and many volunteer activities.

The multi-sport athlete is a Section IX Champion Skier (winter) and standout Lacrosse Player (spring). Matthew is a math and science tutor to many underclassmen and was a volunteer youth lacrosse coach. He is also an accomplished musician who plays guitar, piano and violin.

Matthew will attend Clarkson University in the fall where he will study engineering and play lacrosse for the Golden Knights.
