Warwick defeats Valley Central in football home opener

September 8, 2021

Warwick defeated Valley Central 25 – 20 in home opening “Week 0” win at C. Ashely
Morgan Field before a crowd of nearly 3,000 Wildcat fans on Sept. 3, 2021. Total team effort was the key as all
three phases of the game (offense, defense and special teams) contributed in the win.

Warwick’s Nick DiMarco (12) and Nickolas Simonetta (11) celebrate after DiMarco scored a touchdown against Valley Central in a varsity football game at C. Ashley Morgan Field on Sept. 3, 2021.

Senior QB Nick DiMarco finished 15 for 22 throwing for 205 yards and a touchdown to junior
receiver Ryan McLaughlin. DiMarco also ran for two TD’s behind solid offensive line of Dan
Robledo, Aidan Corrigan, Tim Wilbur, Joe Santiago, Jacob Gibel, Luke Seibel and Christian Felix.
Nick Simonetta led all receivers with eight catches for 101 yards. Skyler Rodriguez, MclLaughlin, and
Justin Hurd combined for 104 yards receiving.

Justin Hurd led the defense with 11 tackles from the safety position while Linebackers Tyler Ellis
and defensive lineman Matt Amaturo had seven and five tackles respectively. The Wildcats forced two
turnovers including an Ellis INT and a forced fumble by Jacob Gibel. Chase Fogg had a key play
from his corner position knocking down an important pass from VC’s QB.

Dan Thorson made his return to football with a 90 yard kick–off return to open the second
half and was aided by key blocks from Dominic Sirico (four total tackles), Tyler Ellis and Justin
Hurd.

Warwick will travel to Goshen on Saturday Sept. 11 for a 1 p.m., kick–off against the
Goshen Gladiators at Goshen High School for the Annual Spirit Trophy Game. The game has added
significance as we remember and honor all of those who were lost in the events of September
11, 2001.

The Section IX Athletic Council has returned all schools to full spectator attendance
both at outdoor and indoor events. Section 9 ruled that masks are optional for all participants
and spectators outdoors but remain required for indoor events such as volleyball and swim
meets. Go Wildcats.
