Warwick Competes in State Football Tournament

July 19, 2021

Warwick football accepted an invitation to compete in the New York State High School Football Coaches Association 7 on 7 State Championships on July 17th at SUNY Cortland.  Following an impressive showing at the Hudson Valley Shoot Out in late June, the Wildcats put their skills to the test against New York’s best in front of over 30 college coaches.

Led by all-league quarterback Nick DiMarco, the Wildcats finished 4-1 with their only loss to University Prep Charter School of Rochester.  Warwick veteran receivers Nick Simonetta, Justin Hurd, Skyler Rodriguez, Nate Constable, rising junior Ryan McLaughlin, Jonah Mederos and rising sophomore Latrell Willis caught everything thrown at them all day long.  Warwick’s newest member of the “44 Club” led the linebacker core of Tyler Ellis, Ryan Fleming, Dominic Sirico, Charlie Phipps, Jake Rooney, Anthony Marcano, Owen Hoyen and Adam Miller.  Defensive backs were impressive all day defending New York state’s top receivers led by Skyler Rodriguez, NIck LoMauro, Devin Mann, Aaron Greaves, Ryan McLaughlin and Declan McCurdy.

Rising 8th grader Marco Green took reps in preparation for the fall season and lineman Christian Felix (11th grade) and Devin Kick competed in the lineman skills showcase.  Both drew the attention of a number of colleges. The Wildcats workout weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights in the weight room (Tuesday’s are skills on the field) from 6 – 7:30 p.m.  Workouts are open to all high school football candidates.  The Wildcats will host Valley Central on Friday, Sept. 3, under the lights of C. Ashley Morgan Field in Warwick.
