Superintendent Update # 4 Regarding Coronavirus – March 13, 2020

March 13, 2020

March 13, 2020

Dear Members of the Warwick Valley CSD Community,

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Warwick Valley Central School District will be closed to students from Monday, March 16, 2020, through Monday, April 13, 2020, including all extracurricular, athletic, and after school activities.  Students will return on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.    Students will return on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. This decision was certainly not made lightly.

This afternoon, at approximately 2 pm, we learned from County Executive Steve Neuhaus that all Orange County Schools will be closed for the next two weeks due to precautions surrounding the Coronavirus. Warwick Valley Central School District has elected to extend this mandated recess period for an additional week. This extra week, along with our already scheduled Spring recess, is intended to provide a sufficient amount of time to reduce the risk that this virus poses to our school community and the community at large. The District is working with community-based partners to maintain the continuity of our student food assistance program.

Additionally, the school buildings will be open Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17, during regular school hours, should you need to pick up student belongings. During these times, we ask that you direct your specific questions about your child to the school principal.

We thank you for your continued flexibility and responsiveness during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

David Leach
Superintendent of Schools
