Superintendent Update #13 – April 20, 2020

April 20, 2020

Dear Members of the Warwick Valley CSD Community,

We miss our students and families!  I never thought I would experience the day when my kitchen table was converted into a classroom, when connecting with colleagues and teachers looked like a grid from the opening of the “Brady Bunch,” or when going to the grocery store necessitated the use of an N95 mask.  I look forward once again to a time when students will sit in classrooms when we connect with friends in hallways, classes, and offices, and when the only masks I see people wearing are at Halloween parades. While there are still so many unknowns, I ask that students take the time to reflect on the following poem written by Erin Hanson, and keep in mind that your future is bright.  There is so much for us to look forward to, just around the corner.

“Life is unpredictable,

It changes with the seasons,

Even your coldest winter

Happens for the best of reasons,

And though it feels eternal,

Like all you’ll ever do is freeze,

I promise spring is coming,

And with it, brand new leaves”

― Erin Hanson

WVCSD Parent Guide To Distance Learning: To complement the District’s NYS approved Distance Learning Plan, we published a Parent Guide to further support families. The document reviews our approach to virtual lesson design, family resources, student expectations, and technology support, and much more. To access the guide, please click here.

School Closure Update: Governor Cuomo recently announced the extension of “New York State on PAUSE” executive order, which includes the closure of all PreK-12 schools in New York State. The Warwick Valley Central Schools will remain closed through Friday, May 15th, at which time the Governor will reassess and determine if a more extended closure is necessary.

We appreciate the patience and flexibility of our families during these challenging times. Let’s continue to be positive and hopeful for better days to come. As always, the district will continue to provide updates on the website as more information becomes available.

With gratitude,

Dr. David Leach
