Students in grades 3-8 will take Math, ELA Assessments this spring

on March 28, 2019

This spring, our students in grades 3-8 will again take New York State Assessments aligned to the state’s new learning standards. Each assessment – ELA and Mathematics – is given over two consecutive days. The assessment dates are:

English/Language Arts (ELA)
Grade 3: April 1-2
Grade 4: April 2-3
Middle School students: April 3-4

Grade 3: April 30-May 1
Grade 4: May 1-2
Middle School students: May 2-3

Over the past few years, the NYS Education Department has made adjustments to the tests in response to concerns from parents and educators. For example, there are fewer questions on the tests and students are now allowed as much time as they need to complete the tests within the regular school day.

Warwick Valley students in Grade 3 and Grade 7 will take the assessments on Chromebooks. Students in Grades 4, 5, 6 and 8 will take the test on paper.

As the assessment dates approach, please keep in mind that no single test provides a complete picture of your child’s abilities. When combined with grades, classroom activities, and quizzes and tests, annual assessments can provide insight about a student’s academic growth. State assessments also provide valuable information about the performance of our schools and the district as a whole. State test results do not affect student grades or promotion.

As always, we encourage our students to do their best on all learning opportunities they participate in at school. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your student’s principal.
