Sarah Davis and Justin Hurd honored as OCIAA Scholar Athletes

Sarah Davis and Justin Hurd were recognized by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) as Warwick Valley High School’s 2022 Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year.  Sarah and Justin were honored as seniors who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and the athletic arena during a breakfast ceremony on Thursday morning.

Sarah ranked second in her class with a cumulative grade point average of 104.61. She was the volleyball team captain for three years and an All Section IX selection for four years. Sarah was also the girls’ basketball team captain and a Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) all-star.

Academically, Sarah was president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and the Environmental Club. She plans to attend Michigan State University to major in Environmental Biology.

Justin ranks 35th in his class with a cumulative grade point average of 98.54. He was team captain in both football and baseball. Justin was an All Section IX selection as a wide receiver in football and is an All Section candidate as a shortstop in baseball.

Justin was a member of the National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society as well as being a student liaison to the Board of Education.  He plans to attend the University of Albany to major in Economics and play baseball.

WVCSD was well represented at the event. Athletic director Greg Sirico was the master of ceremonies and Warwick graduate Suzanne Lendzian was the keynote speaker. Ms. Lendzian, a former OCIAA scholar athlete, is currently the athletic director at Fallsburg High School.
