Video Production teacher Dan Cecconie presented the students’ commercials at a special reception held May 31 for local business owners.

Students in Warwick Valley High School’s video production and communications classes unveiled a series of local commercials at a special reception for business owners held Friday, May 31 in the high school’s production studio.

Students collaborated to produce 10 commercials for the businesses, which included shops, eateries, professional services, and the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce. The videos were then unveiled at a Reveal Reception attended by the business owners.

The project is a collaboration of students from two classes: Dan Cecconie’s Video Production CTE (Career & Technology Education) program and Kirk Thomas’ Communications class.

An adience applaudes

Business owners viewed their commercials at a reveal party held May 31 in the high school production studio.

Students worked in teams of two and met with their assigned clients, wrote and storyboarded the commercials, then filmed and edited their pieces, which included videos for:

  • Corbett’s Cookie Bar Kitchen (David Abb and Quinn Ketchum)
  • The Red Shutters (Emma Andoh and Kathryn Quinn)
  • Rooster Tees (Aidan O’Connor and Aidan Henderson)
  • Jean-Claude’s Bakery (Karissa Crozier and Francesca Micalef)
  • Total Account Ability (Johan Bowen and Luke Vignola)
  • Newhards (Julia Peters and Tommy Serritella)
  • Warwick Valley Farmers’ Market (Jeff Koff and Dillon Marsh)
  • Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce (Maddie Butchko and Elias Chermak)

“I used all the skills I learned last year and refined them,” said senior Mike Gawronski, who, along with classmate Ziad Wazihulla, produced a commercial for Etched in Time, a gift shop in downtown Warwick. “It was definitely a great real-life experience.”

For the students, the assignment was a valuable opportunity to use an array of skills and talents, from camera work to writing to time management, said Mr. Thomas. This is the second year Warwick Valley High School students produced commercials. “They had to set goals and deadline, work closely with their clients, and collaborate with each other,” he said.

Last year eight clients requested ads, which were so well received that there was soon a waiting list of prospective clients. The businesses each made a $250 donation to a scholarship fund for the ads, which are set to appear on their websites and Facebook pages.
