WVMS applauds its November & December Students of the Month

10 students stand on stage with their student of the month certificates

On Wednesday morning, over 70 Warwick Valley Middle School students were honored as November & December 2025 Students of the Month. These honors are bestowed upon students who exhibit characteristics aligned with the district's Portrait of a Graduate!

WVMS Principal Jared Yapkowitz and Associate Principal Andrew Rao presided over the event in the middle school cafetorium, which, despite taking place at 7:00 am on a morning with single digit temperatures, was packed with family and faculty who turned out to support the honorees.

Students are selected for Student of the Month honors by their teachers. They are presented to students who have exhibited one or more of the traits of the district's Portrait of a Graduate. These include being...

  1. A COLLABORATOR
  2. A COMMUNICATOR
  3. A CREATOR/INNOVATOR
  4. AN ETHICAL & GLOBAL CITIZEN
  5. A RESILIENT INDIVIDUAL
  6. A PROBLEM SOLVER
  7. A LIFE-LONG LEARNER

"These awards are given to students not necessarily for their grades, but for going above and beyond in the classrooms," said Mr. Yapkowitz. "The nomination process our teachers go through is to truly look at the characteristics of our Portrait of a Graduate and recognize them in our students."

Students who earn Student of the Month honors, Mr. Yapokowitz has noted, should be very proud of themselves for setting positive examples and modeling excellent behaviors for their peers.
