WVHS students honored at 2025 OU BOCES Outstanding Students Luncheon

Warwick Valley High School valedictorian Evan Grundfast and salutatorian Gisela Gujar.

Join us in congratulating Warwick Valley High School valedictorian Evan Grundfast and salutatorian Gisela Gujar, who were recognized at the 2025 Outstanding Student Honoree Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, hosted by Orange-Ulster BOCES at the Town of Wallkill Golf Club.

The annual event celebrates oustanding students from O-U BOCES programs and two students from each OU BOCES region high school. The students were joined by their families, teachers and administrators to enjoy lunch and the ceremony 

Here is some information that was presented during the ceremony about each student, including what led to their nominations, some personal background and future plans!

Evan Grundfast will be attending Swarthmore College and plans to pursue a pre-medical track with a focus on neuroscience and a minor in business, aiming for a career that blends scientific innovation with compassionate care. Mr. Grundfast is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, president of the National Honor Society, vice president of Model UN, and vice president of the gaming club. He is also completing his third year in a rigorous science research project in partnership with SUNY Albany. His research, The Diagnosis of Prion Disease, has been recognized by the NYS Board of Regents and the University of Albany. Mr. Grundfast’s intellectual curiosity, leadership, and drive position him for continued success at the next level and beyond.

Gisela Gujar will be attending the University of Connecticut and plans to study biological sciences with a minor in Spanish in preparation for a future career in the medical field. She has been president of her class for three years, president of the mathematics honor society Mu Alpha Theta, and an active member of the interact club and National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leader Award, a NYS Scholar-Athlete, and a U.S. Army Academic All-American. With a passion for science and a commitment to compassionate care, Ms. Gujar hopes to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
