WVHS Interact Club lends WV Humane Society a helping paw

Members of the interact club man the info table for warwick valley humane society

Warwick Valley High School’s Interact Club is teaming up with the Warwick Valley Humane Society this week to raise awareness of the shelter's needs and initiatives.

If you're not familiar with the Interact Club, the service-oriented group is one of the high school's most active clubs, organizing at least two major initiatives each year, one aimed at benefiting the local community and another focused on promoting global understanding. They also often work closely with members of Warwick Valley Rotary Club, another service and community-minded organization.

"Interact Club has been a fun way to meet new people," said freshman club member Ava Castro. "It's a great way to get to try new activities and help those in need."

This week, those in need happen to be the furriest members of our community!

During lunch, club members will have a table display set up in the lobby to disseminate important information from the WV Humane Society about animal welfare in general, how to donate to the humane society (Including on the spot in exchange for a lollipop!), and about the many student volunteer opportunities they have available.

The students are also showcasing some of the adorable and affectionate animals currently residing at the humane society, who are available for immediate adoption (pending application approval, of course). This is an especially important part of the awareness campaign, as the start of spring marks the start of "kitten season," when litters of baby cats found around the Warwick area often find their way to the shelter for care.

The display boards feature long-time residents like Iron Mike, a charming one-and-a-half-year-old cat, as well as recent move-ins like Posh, a bunny recently rescued from a breeder. Warwick Valley Humane Society is dedicated to sheltering and protecting lost or homeless pets until they are adopted.

You can inquire with the Interact Club about the Essential Supplies shopping list that the WV Humane Society shared with them. The regular needs include pet food, paper plates, paper towels, regular towels, cleaning supplies, and more.

Visit the Interact Club at their table this week, or they suggest checking out the WV Humane Society website to see how you can... interact!

"We really hope that this effort helps some of these animals find their "furever" homes!"
