WVHS Environmental Club raises green [awareness] in comeback year
The Warwick Valley High School Environmental Club is back and more energized than ever!
The newly re-established club has been diligently working to raise funds for their green initiatives around campus in their first year back since the pandemic. Last week -- while celebrating Earth Day, no less -- the club exceeded its fundraising goals by selling t-shirts, water bottles, bracelets, and stickers during lunch, with 100% of the proceeds going toward recycling kiosks for the school.
So far, they have successfully purchased 25 kiosks and plan to place them in areas where waste is most prevalent, such as during football games. In addition to fundraising, the club is on a mission to spread awareness – not only about the importance of recycling but also about the common misconceptions polluting the topic.
“The biggest way for people to support the club is through efforts like recycling and educating others on best practices,” Dylan Torres, a senior and environmental club member, said. “And, if you see someone tossing an item into the wrong bin, gently reminding them where it should go can make a big difference.”
With thirteen dedicated members, the club is looking forward to expanding its initiatives and continuing to make a positive impact on the environment at Warwick Valley High School.
