WVHS Guidance Department Offers College Application Workshop

Warwick Valley High School Director of Counseling Mary Fox led about 30 rising seniors on a three-hour tour of the college application process on Aug. 6, 2025.

The session, featuring more than 100 slides with live links, was the first of three identical College Application workshops offered to students in the Class of 2026 by the guidance department.

The goal of the program is to give students a 10,000-foot view of the entire college application process, from start to finish.

Ms. Fox started the presentation by saying she was grateful that to see the students because she missed them. She said the best way to complete the process is to break it into small chunks.

"You do not have to figure out the rest of your life today," Ms. Fox said. "But you should think about what you want your experience of college to look like."

Students began by logging into SchooLinks, the new college and career readiness platform replacing Naviance, and started building their profiles. The students also created Common Application accounts. In addition, the workshop covered key topics such as securing letters of recommendation and writing effective personal essays.
