WVHS students honored at annual OU BOCES Humanities Breakfast

2025 Humanities Breakfast Group Shot

Join us in congratulating Warwick Valley High School students Abigail Yurchuk and Finbar O'Connor, who were recognized this morning at the 2025 Humanities Honoree Awards Ceremony & Breakfast, hosted by Orange-Ulster BOCES at the Otterkill Country Club.

The annual event celebrates seniors and juniors who are standouts among their schools' arts and humanities programs. Two students from O-U BOCES programs and two students from each O-U region high school were chosen for the award. The students were joined by their families, teachers and administrators to enjoy breakfast and the ceremony at Otterkill.

Abigail was asked to sing the national anthem to open the program. Here is some information that was presented during the ceremony about each student, including what led to their nominations, some personal background and future plans!

Finbar O’Connor
A talented digital artist known for his dynamic character designs and intricately detailed backgrounds. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he actively volunteers with the WVHS Art Club, Youth Coalition and Youth Advisory Board, showcasing his leadership abilities and commitment to community engagement.

With a passion for storytelling through art, Finbar received a Gold Key award for his digital piece Chernobyl Fairy in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. This past November, he expanded his artistic skills by taking a precollege course in illustration portfolio at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. In the fall, Finbar plans to pursue a degree in illustration/sequential art.

Abigail Yurchuk
An impressive vocalist who sings in Warwick Valley's honors choir, the Meistersingers. Her passion for music is also showcased through her teaching and mentoring with an active local theater company and leading the children’s choir at her parish. She has played lead roles in several elementary, middle school and high school Drama Club productions, which has allowed her to blend her love for acting and singing.

Abigail was selected to the NYSSMA All-State Treble Choir, Area All-State, All-County, and has also performed as a soloist with Orange County Community Orchestra. After high school, Abigail would like to continue pursuing music.
