Successful community Paint & Shop event raises significant scholarship funds

Last Friday, Warwick Valley High School’s art department turned the school into a hub of creativity and community spirit for its annual Paint & Shop event. Students, families, and local residents attended the event, and every attendee contributed to the impressive $2,000+ that was raised to fund scholarships for graduating art students.

The evening included hands-on artistic experiences for all ages. WVHS Honors Art students took the lead, guiding guests through instructional painting lessons that encouraged beginners, and even some seasoned artists, to unleash their creativity. While adults and older students worked on their canvases, younger children delighted in painting animal ceramics, making for a truly family-friendly event accessible to all skill levels.

Beyond the easels, attendees enjoyed a bustling vendor market that featured local artisans and businesses offering their unique, bespoke items. And what festive atmosphere doesn't benefit from some good eats? Both the Maillard and Groovy Scoops food trucks were on hand, serving up delicious treats all night.

"I am deeply appreciative of the hard work that our students and my colleagues put into making this such a memorable night," said WVHS art teacher Kristen Spano. "It was also wonderful to see several colleagues from other schools in attendance, who supported our efforts and even joined in on the painting!"

The Paint & Shop events exemplify Warwick Valley Central School District’s dedication to fostering both creative growth and community engagement. The high school art department offers a robust program that includes a wide range of visual arts courses, from foundational classes to advanced honors and AP opportunities. The department's dedicated staff is known for encouraging their students to explore and expand their talents to express themselves through various media. The department’s commitment to providing real-world experiences helps prepare students for future success in the arts and beyond.

The success of this year's Paint & Shop was made possible through the efforts of student leaders, supportive staff, local vendors, and the broader community. The art department extends its gratitude to everyone who contributed, participated, and made the evening memorable. And as the department looks ahead to future events and exhibitions, everyone hopes to continue building on the success of the Paint & Shop events, which have come to reflect the creativity, collaboration, and spirit of community that make the Warwick Valley High School art department such a standout program.
