Interact Club Thanksgiving Food Drive helps with food insecurity during the holidays

The Warwick Valley High School Interact Club has once again demonstrated the power of student-led service by completing its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, a tradition that continues to make a meaningful impact in their community.

The drive collected donations from high school students, staff and faculty, and resulted in more than 40 overflowing bags and boxes of non-perishable food items. Interact Club members took on the responsibility of sorting, organizing, boxing and bagging everyone’s generosity, and WVHS teacher and Interact Club Advisor Jeanine Fogler delivered the items to the Warwick Valley Food Pantry on Monday. Ms. Fogler emphasized the ongoing need in the Warwick community.

“The need in Warwick is great, and the students of Warwick Valley High School are working to help meet that need,” Ms. Fogler said. “There will be another collection before the December holidays!”

With this campaign, the Interact Club is not only helping to meet immediate needs in the community but also embodying the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, as individuals who are prepared to contribute meaningfully, and with a sense of fulfillment, to their communities. Their actions serve as a reminder that education can extend beyond school walls, and that what goes on both in the classroom and in the community helps shape students into compassionate leaders who understand the importance of service.

For Ms. Fogler, now in her twenty-second year advising the Interact Club, the food drive is not only an annual tradition, but a teaching moment that reinforces the values of generosity and civic engagement. Her dedication and the dedication of her club members over the decades, have truly helped foster a positive culture of service at Warwick Valley High School.

The annual food drive is a great example of how Warwick Valley High School students are living out the district’s vision, and showing how young people can make a lasting difference when they come together with purpose.
