Annual WVHS Clubs & Activities Fair attracts a gym full of interest and enthusiasm

Warwick Valley High School held its annual Clubs & Activities Fair on Thursday, September 17, offering students a chance to explore a wide array of extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities. The event took place in the old gymnasium, where tables lined the floor, each representing a different club and staffed by student members and faculty advisors.

The Clubs & Activities Fair helps students discover interests outside the classroom and connect with peers who share similar passions. More than 50 clubs were represented this year, including Art Club, Robotics, Model U.N., Bug Club, Empty Bowls, Band, Chorus, Orchestra, SkillsUSA, Math Team, Yearbook Club, Future Farmers, and many more. The wide selection ensures that there is something for everyone, whether students are interested in the arts, sciences, service, or leadership.

Reliable research indicates that involvement in extracurricular and co-curricular activities benefits high school students in multiple ways, including better academic outcomes, higher graduation rates, and increased school engagement. Participation has also been shown to support social and emotional growth by fostering leadership and collaborative skills, building friendships, and creating a stronger sense of belonging within the school community.

Each club is led by at least one teacher advisor, and the high school’s daily schedule includes a “unit lunch,” which gives students and teachers shared time to eat and participate in clubs without scheduling conflicts. This structure makes it easier for students to take part in activities that interest them and to try new experiences. Many clubs also offer informative and fun field trips, as well as opportunities for engagement with the wider Warwick community.

By offering such a diverse range of extra- and co-curriculars, the high school invites and encourages student involvement and aims to help students develop new skills, deepen their understanding of topics they care about, form meaningful connections, and enrich their overall high school experience.

With Thursday’s big turnout of enthusiastic club leaders and interested peers, it is safe to say Wildcats will branch out in all kinds of directions this year, and the district can’t wait to see what comes of their efforts and events.
