Extra! Extra! Newspaper fashion show makes headlines... into garments

The Warwick Valley High School Art Department staged its annual Newspaper Fashion Show on Wednesday afternoon. The popular event moved indoors due to rain from its usual asphalt catwalk between the high school and middle school, but the event's usual large and exuberant crowd was the same as ever!

This year's fashion show was titled GODS & GODDESSES, and designers were challenged to create a garment inspired by a figure from ancient mythology, using newspaper as their primary textile.

Forty-six designs were walked out on the runway to enthusiastic applause from the audience of classmates, faculty, staff, and a large showing of family members. The designers' ability to capture the level of detailed tailoring using the materials permitted by the project was impressive. The intricate garments were also complemented by ornate headwear and other bespoke props representative of the designers' chosen mythological muse.     

In a true spirit of collaboration, multiple WVHS departments teamed up once again to make Wednesday’s event God and Goddess worthy! Kirk Thomas' Communication class provided music and videography. Eduardo Avila's Criminal Justice class directed traffic and the crowd during the event. Michele Ehler and Brandi Burk's class provided flowers. Noreen Hanson's Meistersingers performed the national anthem.
