Sanfordville students welcome guests to two Friendsgiving Feasts

A favorite seasonal tradition returned to Sanfordville Elementary School last Friday. It was time for Friendsgiving!

Gratitude and community took center stage as four classrooms – led by Ms. Overbey, Ms. VanDeWater, Ms. Clark, and Mr. Bauer – hosted two Friendsgiving Feasts. Both events welcomed families, faculty, staff, and administrators to sit down for a homemade meal, complete with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pie, and just about everything else you find on a Thanksgiving menu. The homemade dishes -- made with love, of course -- were generously contributed by teachers and families, which was a nice way to highlight the strong partnership that exists between home and school. 

"Friendsgiving has become a cherished tradition that strengthens bonds within the Sanfordville community, and just sets a wonderful tone as we head into the holiday season," said Ms. Overbey. "This is the fourth or fifth year we've had a Freindsgiving celebration in our classes, and it was so fun to have two more classrooms join the festivities this year, with Ms. Clark and Mr. Bauer's students getting involved!"

Leading up to the feasts, students worked diligently, crafting handmade decorations and table settings, writing notes and poems of thanks, and helping transform their classrooms into cozy, welcoming spaces. The four teachers guided them not only in the logistics of preparing the food and service for their guests, but also in understanding the deeper meaning of Friendsgiving: celebrating friendship, kindness, gratitude, and community.

Students welcomed their invited guests to the feasts, working front of house and as wait staff. They seated the visitors, presented them with menus, took their orders, and filled those orders at the serving station. As conversation filled the classrooms-turned-dining-rooms, it was clear that these feasts are about more than food; they are about connection -- between students and teachers, families and staff, and the wider school community.

"Our students worked together to create a warm Friendsgiving celebration for families and teachers," said Ms. Clark. "They collaborated on handmade decorations and greeted each guest. The events highlighted their teamwork, creativity, and strong sense of community, and we couldn't be more proud of them!"

Sanfordville's Friendsgiving Feasts embodied the idea that gratitude grows when shared, and that friendship is best honored in moments of togetherness. Great job, everyone!
