Park Avenue students create a Historical Figures Living Wax Museum

Park Avenue Elementary School students in Ms. Kowalczyk's Historical Figures Living Wax Museum Club have been meeting every week since mid-October, working towards a final presentation where they embody a historical figure of their choice. Last week, the historical figures shared their lives with third- and fourth-grade classes.

Students also designed creative posters and put together costumes to wear to encapsulate the "Living Wax Museum" feel. During the presentations, participating students dressed up as their selected historical figures and positioned themselves throughout the room like wax sculptures. Then, with the push of a "button", the figures came to life and learning began!

"Students in the club researched thoroughly, ensuring they could retell their figure's life story as if they truly lived it themselves," Ms. Kowalczyk said. "With this research, we wrote our speeches which we rehearsed repeatedly to be able to share for our audience."

Visiting students enjoyed listening to the wax figures speak about the importance of the person represented.  The historical figures included: Maria Antoinette, Roberto Clemente, Madame Curie, Walt Disney, Jane Goodall, Babe Ruth and Maria Tallchief.
