Park Avenue holds first ROAR assembly of the year

The Park Avenue Elementary School’s entire student body gathered in the gym on Friday morning for the annual ROAR assembly, a PBIS Kickoff event that highlights how students are expected to behave during the school year.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social and emotional performance, and their mental health. The purpose of the assembly was to clearly communicate school-wide behavioral expectations of ROAR (Respect, Outstanding Choices, Acceptance, and Responsibility).

 "Today we’re going to talk more about what ROAR means," second grade teacher Ms. Urvater told the students. "So I want to remind you that being ROAR means that we show respect, we make outstanding choices, we are accepting and we are responsible. You can show being ROAR all around school, with your teacher in your classroom, in the hallways, when you walk coming down the stairs, when you are in the cafeteria having lunch, when you’re in your playground and even when you're on the bus."

Additionally, students played a game of Connect 4 with questions that tested their ROAR knowledge. Although all of the students answered the questions correctly, no grade was able to connect four dots. As a reward, each class received an envelope of Golden Tickets, one for each student.
