Park Avenue fourth-graders present new school song at Park Ave Palooza
Park Avenue Elementary School held a unique opening to its Park Ave Palooza field day this year, with the entire student body on the front lawn. Kindergartners through third graders sat facing the fourth graders, who sang a new school song.
Each year, the fourth grade class gives a gift to the school community as a thank you for all they have received from the community, the teachers and the school. The Park Avenue PTA’s idea for a gift this year was a little different than the tangible gifts of the past. This year, Park Avenue received a new school song. The fourth-graders, destined for Warwick Valley Middle School next year, performed the song publicly for the first time, before their friends and fellow students in the lower grades.
“This song will remain with us for the future as the sort-of Park Avenue anthem, which is pretty exciting” said Principal Bill Biniaris. He said the song will be used next year and in future years at various school events.
The song was written by Jared Campbell, an award-winning singer/songwriter from upstate New York who has attended events and worked with students in the Warwick Valley Central School District before, including a visit with Park Avenue students for a ROAR assembly in March. Mr. Campbell travels the country performing for people and schools.
Park Avenue students learn about Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) expectations through the ROAR program. ROAR stands for Respect, Outstanding Choices, Acceptance and Responsibility and the song includes the ROAR theme.
