More than 40 Warwick Valley musicians selected to All-County ensembles

Warwick Valley is proud of the 40+ performing arts students who took part in this year's Orange County Music Educators Association (OCMEA) High School All-County Festival!

The OCMEA High School All-County Festival took place on January 23-24, with intensive rehearsals on both days and culminating in a beautiful performance on Saturday evening. Altogether, 46 Warwick Valley musicians were selected to the High School All-County Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Chorus.

Auditioning for the annual OCMEA festivals is a challenging and competitive process and takes months of dedicated preparation. Students must prepare a solo piece to perform for judges, as well as be ready to play multiple scales across multiple octaves and sight read a piece of music on the spot. They are evaluated for their technical skill, musicianship, and accuracy.

Students who are selected to the three ensembles are afforded the opportunity to rehearse with accomplished guest conductors to high-level musical standards. They have fun collaborating with peers who share their love of music and strong work ethics. The process of preparing for and performing in an All-County Festival encourages musical growth, while building confidence, discipline, and time-management skills.

To say that the efforts that go into being an All-County musician align well with our district's Portrait of a Graduate is an understatement. And to that, let's not forget the dedicated high school music educators who teach and support every music student, helping to foster those traits in each of them: Noreen Honason, Elissa Maynard, and Megan Shafer!

Please join us in celebrating this group of talented and resilient creators, collaborators, and communicators on their achievement.
