Extended School Year students end week with arts, crafts and games

An Extended School Year student and teacher build a tower with cups.

Students in the Extended School Year program had fun on the final day of Camping Week with arts and crafts stations in the Warwick Valley Middle School cafeteria.

The camping-themed activities included leaf rubbing and making a campfire craft with colorful construction paper and popsicle sticks.

Camping-themed activity stations included leaf rubbing and creating campfire crafts using colorful construction paper and popsicle sticks. Students also enjoyed a lively game of BINGO, where they marked off camping-themed items such as a campfire, flashlight, fishing pole and compass instead of traditional letters and numbers.

The classes tested their skills stacking plastic cups in towers and their creativity by coloring huge posters. Before the arts session, students made smores using chocolate pudding, marshmallow creme and graham crackers.

With four of the six weeks of the Extended School Year now complete, students and staff are looking forward to starting Animal Week on Monday. Each week's theme is a way for the staff to help students continue learning over the summer in creative, engaging and memorable ways. The themes are incorporated into classroom decorations, reading and writing activities, math lessons and art projects.
