Wildcats Spring Sports Update (June 26)

Outdoor Track and Field

Warwick Valley High School outdoor track and field runners were named All-Americans after medaling at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals on June 20 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field.

The 1,600-meter mixed relay team of Logan Conley, Reagan Smith, Luke Beattie and Ciarra Currid placed fifth with a school-record time of 3 minutes, 33.42 seconds. The top six finishers in championship relays earned All-American awards.

The boys 800-meter relay team of Conley, Isaiah Gonzalez, Tommy Ronan, and Beattie finished 10th with a school-record time of 1:27.20. The time was also No. 3 all-time for Section 9.

Girls Lacrosse

Congratulations to junior Kelsy Larney and senior Erin Kelly for earning recognition from USA Lacrosse. Kelsy was named a USA Lacrosse All-American for being a player who demonstrates superior skills and techniques, possesses exceptional game sense and embodies excellent sportsmanship.

Erin was honored as an All-Academic selection for exhibiting exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field  high academic achievement in the classroom.

Kelsy and coach Denis O'Connor who were named Section 9 Class A-B girls lacrosse player and coach of the year. Erin joined Kelsy on the first team. Laci Annunziato and Keira Ginley were named to the second team. Alexa Hayes was an honorable mention selection.


Boys Tennis

Denis McAteer and Victor Januario reached the finals of the Section 9 boys tournament before losing to Kingston’s Eli Lowen and Ryan Ambrose 6-4, 6-2. McAteer and Januario will be playing in the NYSPHSAA tournament beginning on June 5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.


Boys Lacrosse

Congratulations to long stick midfielder Jason Senior for eclipsing the all-time scoring record for a long pole at Warwick Valley! The go-ahead point came on a goal in the Section 9 Class B semifinals. The record was previously held for a decade by 2016 graduate and two-time All American Connor Filipowski.

Senior and defender Tommy Ronan were named Section 9 Class A-B first team all-stars by the coaches association.

Henry Wright, Matt Finnerty and Sean Perez were second team selections. Tommy Knox, Nick Vicciardo and Kyle Bolich were honorable mention picks.

Senior, who finished with 67 points, will attend LeMoyne college in the fall to play Division I lacrosse. Filiposwski’s total was 63 points.


Baseball

Junior Jack Gobinski was named to the Section 9 Class AA all-star team by the baseball coaches association.


Softball

Junior Amanda Larsen was named to the Section 9 Class AA all-star team by the baseball coaches association.
