Wildcats Spring Sports Update (April 28)

Softball

Freshman Gianna Ricco had a huge offensive day in an 8-6 victory over Newburgh Free Academy on April 20. She went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and four RBI. Emily Romig drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the seventh inning.


Emily Gulick drove in two runs during the Wildcats’ 7-2 loss to Kingston on April 17.
 
Megan Tennant threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in Warwick’s 7-1 victory over Cornwall on April 13. Lorenza Breenie led the way offensively with two hits and two RBI.


Camryn Moore also had two hits for the Wildcats. Emily Romig added an RBI single.

Boys Track and Field

Senior Luke Beattie won the pole vault at the prestigious Penn Relays on April 24 in Philadelphia. He cleared 16 feet, 3.5 inches on his first attempt to finish first and earn a Penn Relays gold watch.

Warwick's 400-meter relay team of Quenten Liciaga, Logan Conley, Isaiah Gonzalez and Giacomo Abbate set a school record of 42.70 seconds. Gonzalez, Beattie, Conley and Alex Desimone won their heat of the 1,600-meter relay in 3:25.15.

Double-winners Gonzalez, Liciaga and Leo Shostal powered the unbeaten Wildcats to a 100-41 victory over Goshen on April 21.

Gonzalez was first in the triple jump and 100-meter dash, Liciago won the high jump and long jump, and Shostal was first in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Triple jumper Isaiah Gonzalez and high jumper Quenten Liciaga broke long-standing school records to power Warwick to a 91-50 win against Pine Bush on April 14.

Gonzalez won the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, two inches, breaking the previous record set by Joe Marcano in 1978. Gonzalez also won the long jump (21-7) and was on the winning 400-meter relay team.

Liciago cleared 6-8 in the high jump to break a record set by Jeff Oliver in 1997. 

Shostal placed first in the 1,600-meter run in four minutes, 31.5 seconds and won the 3,200 in 10:40.9.


Girls Track and field

Ciara Currid, Courtney Ziegler, Reagan Smith, Amiya Chatman ran the 400-meter relay in 51.68 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Ciara Currid, Smith, Emily Gulick, Ziegler ran 4:05.12 in the 1,600-meter relay. Both times were season bests.

The Wildcats defeated Goshen 100-41 on April 21. Carla Agreda Jiminez finished first in the triple jump and pole vault.

BASEBALL

Jack Gobinski drove in two runs in Warwick’s 5-3 loss to Valley Central on April 24. 

Warwick swept a doubleheader against Monticello on April 22, winning 9-3 and 10-0. Gobinski had two hits, including a  home run in the first game. Chase Bruckner had two hits in each game. Tom Ranaudo and Joe Sanzone were the winning pitchers.

Alex Clotworthy had two hits, including a double to pace Warwick in a 7-5 victory over Minisink Valley on April 15. Chase Bruckner also had two hits for the Wildcats. Winning pitcher Shawn Pegues had four strikeouts.

Pitcher Preston Dwyer had nine strikeouts in a 6-3 loss to Washingtonville on April 13.

Boys lacrosse

Matt Finnerty scored three goals in a 12-8 loss to Cornwall on April 22. 

Four goals by Henry Wright led the Wildcats over Suffern 16-7 on April 13. Jason Senior and Garrett Judd each had two goals for Warwick.


Girls Lacrosse

Kelsy Larney scored her 100th career goals in an 18-7 victory over Monroe-Woodbury on April 21. Her sisters Kiera and

Kaitlyn, who are both playing at the University of Vermont, also scored 100 goals in their Warwick careers.

Keira Ginley, Kelsey Larney and Ava Fanos each scored twice in a 12-1 victory against Wallkill on April 14. 

 

 


Flag Football

Flag football

Warwick lost to Minisink Valley 13-0 on April 17. The Wildcats have a season record of 3-6.


Boys Golf

Shaun Kunish, Matt Poje and Ryan Colavito each shot 41 in a 212-248 victory over John S. Burke Catholic on April 24 at Warwick Valley Country Club. The Wildcats improved their record to 6-2 with the win.

Poje fired a 39 to lead Warwick past Washingtonville 206-217 on April 22. Kunish scored 40.  
Kunish shot a 39 in Warwick’s 209-261 win against James I. O’Neill at West Point on April 13. Dylan Bess and Will Roome shot 41 for the Wildcats.


Girls Golf

Alexa Milazzo shot 47 in Warwick’s 172-196 win over James I. O’Neill at Warwick Valley Country Club on April 22. Milazzo led the way with a 49 in a 143-167 loss to Goshen at Stony Ford Golf Course on April 21.

Sydney Becker carded a 55 for the Wildcats in a 174-183 loss against Cornwall at Warwick Valley Country Club on April 16. 

Boys Tennis


Victor Januario and Matthew Budnar posted singles victories in a 4-3 loss to Goshen on April 24. The Wildcats blanked Monticello 7-0 on April 22.
