The Warwick Valley Wildcats girls varsity basketball team took on the Pine Bush Bushmen on Tuesday night in a thriller that came down to the final seconds of play!

The Wildcats' Reese Girardi led all scoring in the game with upwards of 20 points. The Wildcat captain (and committed SUNY Brockport Golden Eagle) was characteristically humble and team-oriented during her postgame interview with WVTV Sports student commentator Landon Komorsky.

"My teammates give me the ball, I shoot when I'm open, and that's that," she said with a smile, adding, "Honestly, I don't focus on stats. I'm focused on the next game, the next win; you know, we're playing for a [Section IX] title!"

In the final moments of the game, with score tied at 44, Warwick Valley's Sofia Mazza turned the ball over and was then fouled on the Bushmen's subsequent attempt to capitalize. Sofia sank both free throws to put the Wildcats ahead 46-44, which would be the final score.

Landon asked Sofia if she was feeling the pressure in that situation, to which Sofia answered, "Yes, especially after that massive turnover. I just felt like, 'oh my goodness, I have to make these free throws!'"

And she sure did!

Landon and his co-commentator, WVHS teacher and coach Ryan Candia, also noted a critical fourth quarter 3-pointer by junior McKenzie Decker that kept the Wildcats in the game.

You can watch the whole game right here. And be sure to stay tuned until the end for interviews with Reese, Sofia and McKenzie.

Great game, Wildcats!
