Wildcats Fall Sports Update (Oct. 28, 2025)

Warwick defeated FDR 34-21 to clinch the third playoff spot in Section 9 Class A Division I on Oct. 25. Giacomo Abbate rushed for 73 yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Wildcats, who led 34-0 at halftime, will face Goshen in a Class A quarterfinal game at Goshen on Saturday, Nov. 1. The winner of that game will play top-seeded Cornwall in the semifinals at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 in Cornwall.

Boys cross country

Warwick's Leo Shostal finishes first in the OCIAA cross country championship race.

Sophomore Leo Shostal finished first in the OCIAA cross country championship race on Oct. 25 over his home course at Sanfordville Elementary School. Shostal won the 3.09-mile race in 15 minutes, 27.8 seconds, just in front of Goshen's Jackson St. Lawrence (15:31.3.).

The Wildcats finished fourth out of 21 schools with 142 points. Washingtonville, which defeated Warwick in a dual meet last week to win the Division II title, also scored had a five-runner total of 142 points. But Warwick was awarded fourth after placing its sixth runner in front of Washingtonville's sixth runner.

Junior Rosario Dovico was 23rd (16:56.2). The Wildcats will be racing again at Sanfordville in the Section 9 championships on Nov. 4. Complete results of the OCIAA meet are at: https://fat.live/meets/55932/events/xc/2152091


Girls Cross Country

Senior Madison Olszewski placed 20th in 19:47.0 to lead Warwick in the OCIAA cross country championship meet at Sanfordville Elementary School on Oct. 25. Sophomore Beatrix Wendell was 23rd (19:59.5).

The Wildcats finished in sixth place with 177 points in the 17-team field. The Wildcats will be racing again at Sanfordville in the Section 9 championships on Nov. 4. Complete results of the OCIAA meet are at: https://fat.live/meets/55932/events/xc/2152093


Girls Tennis

The varsity girls tennis team completed their regular season with a 12-0 record for their second consecutive undefeated season.  The team then went on to win the OCIAA championship with a victory over Monroe-Woodbury and followed that up with a Section 9 team championship for the second consecutive season with a win versus Wallkill.

“I challenged these girls after last season’s success to come back prepared for even greater success this year," coach Zwart said. "They knew other teams would circle the dates on the calendar for those matches against us.  They rose to the challenge.  I’m proud of their growth as individuals and as a team.  The off-season begins now and we’ll get back to work in preparation for next season.”

The Wildcats lost to defending state champion Horace Greeley from Section I in a regional state match.

In individual play, all nine eligible girls from the lineup qualified to play in the OCIAA singles and doubles championships at Match Point in Goshen.  Those who played were the singles players Keri Leahey, Piper Stewen, and Leah Scalo. Keri, Piper, and Leah played in the top three singles positions on the team.  They are all in eighth grade!

The doubles teams included Celia Greco and Bianka Grzesik, Nina Cirillo and Anika Brezina, and Hailee Oppmann and Grace Cornelius. All three singles players and doubles teams qualified for the Section 9 player championships based on their finishes in the OCIAA tournament.

Keri Leahey, Piper Stewen, and Leah Scalo performed well in the Section 9 tournament and were ultimately eliminated by one of the top four finishers (all upper classmen) in the tournament.

Celia Greco and Bianka Grzesik finished in second place at the Section 9 tournament.  Hailee Oppmann and Grace Cornelius finished in third place.  Both doubles teams qualified for the NYSPHAA tennis championships held in the Billie Jean King Center at the US Open Complex in Flushing Meadows, Queens that was held from October 27-29, 2025. 


Girls swimming

Addison Kleveno finished second in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events at the OCIAA Division 2 championship meet. Her times in both events were personal bests.


Boys soccer

The Wildcats are the No. 3 seed in the Section 9 Class AA tournament. Warwick plays a semifinal game at No. 2 seed Wallkill at 5 p.m. on Oct. 28. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Cornwall-Goshen match in the championship game on at 5 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Middletown High School.


Girls soccer

Warwick, seeded second,  has a bye in the first round of the Section 9 Class AA tournament.  The Wildcats will face the Minisink Valley-FDR winner in a semifinal game at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 at Sanfordville Elementary School. The winner of that game plays top-seeded Wallkill in the championship game at 11 a.m. on Nov. 1 at Wallkill High School.


Volleyball

Warwick finished the regular season with a 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 26-24 loss to undefeated Cornwall on Oct. 23. Seeding for the Section 9 tournament is on Oct. 30.  Evie Boyle paced the Wildcats with 17 kills and three aces. Peyton Komorsky had 20 assists, nine kills and two aces.

The Wildcats (10-6) beat Port Jervis 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18 on Oct. 22. Boyle led the way with 19 kills and five aces. Komorosky added 23 assists, three aces and two kills.
