Wildcats Fall Sports Update (Nov. 17, 2025)

After dropping the first two games, Warwick rallied back to defeat Horseheads 3-2 in the NYSPHSAA Class AA quarterfinals to advance to pool play at the state semifinals on Nov. 22-23 at Harding Mazzotti Arena in Glens Falls.

"It’s been an amazing season so far for this team," coach Shawn Thomas said. "They’ve worked really hard from the start of season and bring that winning attitude to practice every day. They’ve had a belief in themselves that so far has gotten them into the state tournament and hopefully we can keep the winning going."

The Wildcats won 25-27, 12-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-7. Evie Boyle had 20 kills, three blocks and 36 digs. Peyton Komorsky had nine kills, two blocks, 26 assists and two aces. Sydney Lewis had seven kills, six digs and one ace. Madison Havell had 34 digs and three aces.

Cross Country

Warwick's Leo Shostal finishes seventh in the Class A state cross country championship race.

Sophomore Leo Shostal turned in the best performance of his career and finished seventh at the NYSPHSAA Class A cross country championship meet on Nov. 15 at Queensbury High School. The six runners in front of Leo were all seniors. He is ranked 16th nationally for sophomores.

Leo completed the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 23.9 seconds. That time broke the school record of 15:35.5  for the Queensbury course that Mike Mark set at the 2005 state meet.

"Wow, what a race it was," boys cross country coach Mike Potter. "His never give up attitude, determination and training focus is nothing short of inspiring!"  

Leo will be competing in the New York State Federation cross country championships at noon on Nov. 22 at Bowdoin Park in Poughkeepsie.


Girls soccer

Warwick's fantastic season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Churchville-Chili in the Class AA state semifinals on Nov. 15 at Dryden High School. Albertus Magnus beat Churchville-Chili 3-0 in the championship game the following day.

The Wildcats finished with a 16-4-1 record and captured the team's first Section 9 Championship since 1982. Warwick reached the semifinals by defeating Horseheads 3-2.
