Wildcat coaches open boys summer baseball camp

Practice swings were being taken, and mitts pounded on Monday morning, as a group of enthusiastic ball players in grades 3-8 gathered bright and early on the varsity field for the start of the Wildcats Boys Baseball Camp!

The three-day intensive is led by Warwick Valley High School varsity baseball coaches Brad Garcia and John Vanderstar. The camp is open to players of all experience levels, and enrollees include local Little Leaguers and even modified Wildcat players. Campers meet daily from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and work with the coaches and some Wildcat players on offensive and defensive skills—everything from fine-tuning their batting stances and swings to learning how to turn a double play and hit the cutoff man. 

While the daily drills focus on baseball fundamentals, the overall aim of the camp is to build confidence and instill a love of the game and the camaraderie that comes with it. 

"Baseball is about more than just the plays," Coach Garcia said. "It’s about learning, growing, and having fun with your teammates. We want these kids to enjoy the game as much as we do."
