Warwick 800-meter relay team on the podium at the state championship meet.

Congratulations to Warwick Valley High School senior pole vaulter Luke Beattie and the Wildcats 800-meter relay team for winning indoor track and field state championships at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility in Staten Island on March 6-7.

Beattie cleared 16 feet, eight inches to set a meet record and win the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A and overall Federation championships. Luke has now won six straight pole vault state titles in NYSPHSAA indoor and outdoor track and field championship meets.

The relay team of Isaiah Gonzalez, Logan Conley, Luke Beattie and Tommy Ronan placed first with a school-record time of 1 minute, 28.40 seconds. The team was the first ever from Warwick to win the 800 relay. The Wildcats have captured 45 state championship titles in indoor track and field and 60 more for outdoor track and field.

Gonzalez placed 10th in the long jump (22-5 1/4), Klaus Lindenau was tied for 11th in the pole vault (14-0) and Leo Shostal placed 27 in the 3200 (9:37.99).
