Warwick boys win titles at outdoor track and field state championship meet

Warwick's boys outdoor track and field team brought home 18 medals, including two state titles, at the New York State Public High School outdoor track and field championship meet on June 13-14 at Webster Schoeder High School in Webster.

Senior Luke Beattie won the Class A 200-meter dash in 21.23 seconds and teamed up with Isaiah Gonzalez, Quenten Liciaga and Logan Conley to finish first in the Class A 400-meter relay in 41.32 seconds. Beattie finishes his Warwick track career with 10 state titles.

"This team is not only one of the finest teams Warwick as ever seen but that New York State has ever seen, placing in six out of eight events we entered," coach Mike Potter said. "The athletes handled themselves with class and poise all weekend, and we could not be more proud to see our team showcase their talents and end on such a high note, especially all of the seniors who have put every ounce of themselves into the program over the years."

The meet included two finals in each event, one for NYSPHSAA teams and a Federation championship that included teams from the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL), Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) and New York State Alliance of Independent Schools Athletic Association (NYSAISAA). Beattie also won the Federation 200 meters in 21.07. The 400 relay team was second.

Conley also placed sixth in the Class A 200 (22.13) and Gonzalez was sixth in the Class A long jump 22-6 3/4).

Sophomore Leo Shostal finished second in the Class A 3,000 steeplechase (9:28.66) and was third in the Class A 3,200 (9:12.32).

Senior Klaus Lendenau cleared 15 feet to take fourth in the Class A pole vault.
