The Physical Education department at Warwick Valley High School is proactive in equipping students with life-saving skills. Students learn Hands-Only CPR in every physical education class!

Throughout the school year, every student in phys ed class receives hands-on instruction from the district's CPR-certified PE teachers. The teachers guide them through the essential steps of recognizing cardiac emergencies, how to call for help, and how to perform high-quality chest compressions. Integrating this practical training into the high school's curriculum helps ensure that students have the knowledge and confidence to take immediate and effective action during critical moments.

"This initiative reflects our district’s commitment to promoting health, safety, and community readiness," said Gregory Sirico, Warwick Valley High School Director of Athletics. "Our PE teachers emphasize the importance of quick response in cardiac emergencies, demonstrating how immediate CPR can dramatically increase survival rates."

Students consistently report feeling empowered by the training, knowing that they possess a skill that can help save someone’s life. Through this school-wide effort, the high school continues to strengthen its culture of preparedness, responsibility, and care for others.
