Boys lacrosse campers rip into summer fun

Counselors chase campers while playing a game at Warwick boys lacrosse camp.

The Wildcats boys lacrosse summer camp kicked off on Monday morning at Sanfordville Elementary School, offering young athletes the opportunity to hone their lacrosse skills under the guidance of experienced coaches and players.

The week-long camp runs daily, with an early morning session to accommodate the youngest enthusiasts—the special “Wildcats Lacrosse Minis” session—at 8:00 am. The rest of the campers get started at 9:00 and train until 11:00 am. The format ensures that players of all ages can get in on the action!

Campers at every age level benefit from the hands-on coaching delivered by current high school coaches, including head coach Tom Kelly, as well as Wildcats players and alumni. The program offers a structured, supportive environment where participants learn and practice the fundamentals of lacrosse both in the clubhouse and on-field situations.

Campers work in one large group and in teams to develop lacrosse skills through drills and team play. Each day also features a keynote speaker who addresses the group, sharing their unique insights and motivation with the athletes. The younger campers enjoy learning from current and recent alumni, many of whom say they aspire to play for the exciting Wildcats team themselves one day.

The Wildcats, it is worth noting, posted an impressive 12-6 overall record last season, including a 4-1 mark in divisional play.

The camp’s culminating event is the Championship Series! This will be the sixth year the camp wraps up with the mini-tournament, and it takes place on Friday. The competitive event gives campers the chance to showcase the skills they’ve developed throughout the week and is a fun way to close out the program.

Not to mention that the winning team gets to claim bragging rights for the remainder of summer vacation!
