Pine Island School – Covid-19 (update) 11.1.20

November 1, 2020

Sunday, November 1, 2020

Dear Pine Island Elementary School Parents, Guardians, and Staff,

Last evening, a parent reported to the District that a Pine Island Elementary School student tested positive for COVID-19.

To allow time for a complete communicable disease investigation, contact tracing, and out of an abundance of caution, Pine Island Elementary School will be operating in a remote capacity beginning tomorrow, Monday, November 2, and continuing on Tuesday, November 3. As you make your childcare plans, please know that we will be back in touch on Tuesday, November 3, if we need to continue to suspend in-person instruction.

This afternoon, District administrators will contact the students’ parents and staff who are required to quarantine. We will also work along with the Orange County Department of Health to complete the communicable disease investigation and to confirm that no other person was in direct or proximate contact with the student during the infectious period.

The District continues to employ a multi-layer prevention approach to keep our students and staff safe: masks, physical distancing, reduced building/bus occupancy, deep cleaning, disinfection, etc. We want to emphasize the importance of completing and reporting your health screening results.

To keep all stakeholders fully informed, New York State’s COVID Report Card is available for your review. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) considers Pine Island ES as a Sanfordville Elementary satellite school. Therefore, the NYSED requires the District to add Pine Island School’s COVID-19 cases to the Sanfordville Elementary report.

Sincerely,

John Russo, Principal

David Leach, Superintendent of Schools
