Park Avenue launches One Book, One School Program

February 22, 2019

Imagine hundreds of families reading one book simultaneously.

Park Avenue Elementary teachers, students and their families will accomplish this through the school’s new “One Book, One School” Program.

“One Book, One School” is a movement designed to get an entire school community involved in the joy of reading. Through the program, each Park Avenue family will receive a copy of the same book.

Following a shared schedule, the families read at home together. In the classroom, there are daily questions and discussions that reinforce the reading and get everyone at school excited about the book.

This year’s book will be “The Year of Billy Miller.”

Park Avenue celebrated the start of the program with a special assembly where members of the student council performed scenes from the first chapter of “The Year of Billy Miller” to build excitement. Students were also given Billy Miller’s signature blue baseball cap to keep as their own.

The district would like to thank the Park Avenue PTA and WFEL for purchasing the books and baseball caps.
